Austin Constantine Knight, better known as Awsten Knight, is the lead singer and rhythm guitarist for the American band Waterparks.
As of early 2022, Awsten’s net worth is predicted to be more than $1 million. Of course, his annual earnings will vary greatly depending on his commitments and their success.
He was born on January 17, 1992, in Houston, Texas, to a PE teacher mother and a nursing father; he has a younger sister named Gracie. Austin maintains his family life quiet, however, he is of Irish, German, French, and Greek ancestry. He hasn’t divulged the identities of his parents, but he has stated that he has his family and friends listen to his work to see if they approve of it and to guarantee there is no repetition.
Austin’s interest in music began at an early age, and he said that the band Sum 41 motivated him to begin playing the guitar and creating music. He is known for carrying his guitar everywhere he goes and always writing tunes. He was raised in Cypress, Texas, and attended Cypress Ridge High School.
Awsten has revealed that he was bullied as a child because of his odd-colored eyes and that students referred to him as “The Devil.” He saw it as an opportunity to mature and become more self-aware, which he believes is essential for being in a band. He enrolled in college but dropped out after a few semesters to pursue his passion of becoming a musician. Awsten allegedly holds a doctorate from the State University of Sheffield in Ohio.
In his personal life, Awsten dated a girl named Grace from 2011 till the end of 2015, when they split up. Grace and Otto Wood appear to have started dating soon after Awsten and her split but finally announced it in January 2016.
In 2016, Awsten began dating Ciara Hanna, best known for her role as the yellow Power Ranger in Power Rangers Megaforce. They split up in 2017 when Awsten realized Ciara had been cheating on him. After their breakup, he created and uploaded a song to YouTube, but he later withdrew it from the site.
Awsten prefers not to discuss his personal and dating life in interviews, instead of speaking about it in his songs, including several on “Fandom” regarding his breakup with Ciara.
Awsten began his career with the band The Blue Poptarts, which included Otto Wood and other musicians.
Awsten formed Waterparks in 2011 with Owen Marvin and Gage Matthieu; they released their first EP, “Airplane Conversations,” on 3 April 2012, and on 17 August 201, the band performed their first show at Warehouse Live in Houston, alongside other renowned musicians such as Animate, Life as Lions, Invent, and DWHB. Soon after this concert, Owen and Gage quit the band, and Otto Wood and Geoff Wigington replaced them — Awsten met Geoff through Gage.
Waterparks are classified as pop-rock, alternative rock, pop-punk, and electropop, but they also include elements of indie, hip hop, punk, jazz, and electronic music.
The band performed at local venues throughout Texas before being chosen as Aaron Carter’s support act on his Houston tour date on May 11, 2013. They also performed during the Vans Warped Tour’s Houston dates in 2013 and 2015.
Following the release of their second EP, “Black Light,” in 2014, the band signed with the record label “Equal Vision Records,” and were given the opportunity to work with Good Charlotte’s Benji and Joel Madden as producers.
On November 19, 2015, Good Charlotte had a comeback gig at “The Troubadour” in West Hollywood, California, and they invited Waterparks to join them on stage.
On January 15, 2016, Awsten and his bandmates released their third EP, “Cluster.” Benji Madden co-produced the record, and Mikey Way, the bassist for My Chemical Romance, provided the basis for the EP. Waterpark’s debut album, “Double Dare,” was released on November 4, 2016. Meanwhile, the band backed Never Say Never on their Black Cat Tour and Sleeping with Sirens on their End The Madness Tour, before returning to the Vans Warped Tour that year and performing on all dates.
Waterparks supported All Time Low on their March 2017 tour of Ireland and the United Kingdom, alongside fellow bands The Wrecks and SWMRS. Later that year, they rejoined All Time Low for their Young Renegades tour in the United States.
On January 26, 2018, the band released their second studio album, “Entertainment,” which debuted at number 98 on the Billboard 200 chart. Waterparks announced on May 23, 2019, that they had parted ways with Equal Vision Records and had signed with “Hopeless Records,” through which they released their third studio album, “Fandom,” on October 11, 2019.
In 2017, Waterparks was named Best International Breakthrough Artist at “The Rock Sound Awards” and Best Breakthrough Artist at the “Alternative Press Music Awards.” At the “Alternative Press Music Awards” that same year, they were nominated for Album of the Year for “Double Dare” and Song of the Year for “Stupid for You.”
Awsten has written and published a book titled “You’d Be Paranoid Too (If Everyone Was Out To Get You)” in addition to being the lead singer of Waterparks. He created the book after returning from the band’s “Entertainment” tour, and he says he started writing it to keep himself busy while he was very, super depressed.’ The book was released on June 10, 2019, by MDDN Publishing, a firm founded and run by Benji and Joel Madden.
Awsten also has a side rap project called “Felony Steve,” under which he has published a couple of humorous songs. Under the alias “Lil Kidz Bop,” he has also created electronic rap.
Awsten stands 5ft 10ins (1.78m) tall and weighs 154lbs (70kgs). He was born with Heterochromia iridium, a disorder that causes the irises of an individual’s eyes to be different colors.
As a result, his left eye is a muddled grey-blue tint, while his right eye is a vivid green.
Austin’s natural hair color is dark brown, although he enjoys dying it and changing the color for each record. Fans of the band think that every change in his hair color heralds the start of a new era.
Awsten began co-hosting a podcast, “Awsten + Travis’ Slumber Party,” with his friend Travis Riddle in January 2018. They read Waterparks fan fiction on the show. According to ask.FM, Awsten does not drink alcohol since he has an “addictive nature” and knows it would be inappropriate for him and his work.
